RECOMMENDATION:

recommendation

It is recommendation of the Parks and Community Services Director that the Parks and Community Services Commission approve the change in meeting days from the fourth Thursday of the month to the second Thursday of the month beginning in September 2022.

end

BACKGROUND:

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, City Council approved the revision of the name of the Park, Arts and Community Services Commission to the Parks and Community Services Commission (PACS). This action was taken as a result of the approval of a new Arts Commission. This action, along with the elimination of the Cultural Arts Committee, has opened up the calendar for the PACS Commission to utilize the second Thursday for their meetings.

ANALYSIS:

The PACS meetings are currently scheduled on the fourth Thursday of the month, which typically conflicts with holidays in November and December. This causes the Commission to be dark in those months. By rescheduling the meetings to the second Thursday, it will allow the Commission to have their meetings and not be impacted by the holidays or require the scheduling of special meetings. In addition, staff believe the new meeting day will allow for more timely updates to the Commission, especially in the monthly reports from both the Park Rangers and the Director’s report, and for planning purposes for upcoming events.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Commission may choose to keep the fourth Thursday of the month for their meeting dates.

FISCAL REVIEW:

No fiscal Impact.

LEGAL REVIEW:

No legal review is needed.

CONCLUSION:

It is recommendation of the Parks and Community Services Director that the Parks, Arts and Community Services Commission approve the change in meeting days from the fourth Thursday of the month to the second Thursday of the month beginning in September 2022. This change has been reviewed and approved by the City Clerk.
